VR solutions - Xcope

Virtual Reality (VR) in anesthesia care is a powerful non-drug tool. It helps distract patients and reduces anxiety and pain. VR can also decrease the need for deep sedation or opioids. It is especially useful for procedures done under regional anesthesia, such as nerve blocks or spinal blocks, and under local anesthesia. VR improves the patient experience, supports faster recovery, and lowers drug-related risks. Its effectiveness can vary depending on the procedure and the patient.

How VR Works in Practice

Before Procedure

TA clinician selects a calming VR program. The patient wears the headset while the anesthesiologist monitors vitals and prepares medications.

During Procedure

VR acts as:

  • A distraction
  • A source of biofeedback
  • A replacement for light sedation in some cases
  • Clinicians maintain full control of anesthesia and monitoring.
  • After Procedure

VR may be used again in the recovery area to decrease pain and discomfort

    Limitations

Not suitable for major surgeries requiring deep anesthesia Some patients may experience motion sickness Must be used with trained staff Limited effectiveness for severe anxiety or certain medical conditions

    Technology We Use

Xcope provides an evidence-based medical device for digital anesthesia, also known as Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR). This solution helps reduce pain and anxiety in patients during or after stressful or painful medical procedures.

The system is built around three core components:

    • A virtual reality kit (headset and earphones) that delivers a fully immersive experience
    • Specialized software featuring programs created in close collaboration with physicians and neuroscience experts, clinically validated to deliver guided distraction.
    • A single-use patient interface designed to ensure hygiene and simplify workflow for operating room (OR) staff.

    Tablet and the software

A touchscreen control unit running dedicated therapeutic software is used to configure, calibrate, and supervise the patient’s immersion session, enabling a fully personalized experience.

Patients can express their preferences and select from a variety of immersive scenarios, while the caregiver refines and customizes the session to align with clinical objectives and individual needs. Interaction with the patient occurs through real-time voice communication or visual messages displayed directly in the VR headset.

The system connects wirelessly to the VR headset for seamless, real-time session management. Available functions include adjusting the immersion duration (5–80 minutes), selecting patient profiles, and controlling audio parameters such as voice, music, and environmental sounds.

    Headphones

Over-ear, active noise-cancelling headphones designed specifically for therapeutic applications. They deliver clear, immersive sound while reducing ambient noise to support patient comfort and focus. Compatible with both wired and wireless connections, they can be used to deliver live or pre-recorded therapeutic content. Built for extended sessions, they feature long battery life and a comfort-focused design.

    Headset with microphone

An external wired microphone allows real-time vocal interaction during therapeutic sessions. When connected, it activates the system’s live-hypnosis mode, disabling pre-recorded audio and enabling a trained clinician to deliver personalized guidance. Microphone input levels can be finely adjusted through the advanced control interface to maintain clear, high-quality sound. Sessions may also be recorded for future use while preserving consistent configuration settings.

    Extra batteries

Modular battery packs designed to extend the runtime of the system’s hardware components, particularly the virtual reality headset. Essential for uninterrupted sessions in high-frequency clinical settings or when power access is limited. Battery level indicators are visible on the monitoring interface, and integration allows safe power management during active sessions.
